How does clothing affect film?-
Clothing is important to film because it helps depict a character and show who they are suppose to be. For example, a character in a suit is either trying to show he is powerful or he is straight up powerful. In the youtube video it talks about how a hacker wearing a ripped t-shirt isn't going to give off the impression that he is all knowing and powerful. Audience member already have pre-conceived ideas of how certain types of people will be. A better fit for a hacker would be a person wearing a suit and glasses because it depicts what we expect. Color can also be important from character to character. In pulp fiction the men losing their suits for t-shirts and shorts shows a loss of power and when their boss comes around wearing a suit it shows that he knows he is in charge and so do the men. Along with everything that makes a film come together clothing is really critical when it comes to character development. If a character is said to be something but is dressed wrong for the occasion it sends a message of "they are trying to be something they are not". While clothing is really important it is something many filmmakers completely overlook. Clothing sets character apart from the scene and conveys the mood of the film. The clothing character wear, when done right, can help the characters stand out and feel cinematic.  Clothing should help convey personality and show who the character is. You should be able to show our audience instead of telling them who your characters are suppose to be. Film making is mostly made up of the things you see and if a character is wearing something that isn't good for their character audience member will feel off about it/ hesitant to believe it's truth. For example, If a group of high school cheerleaders is wearing all black dresses and black makeup you aren't gonna immediately think they are cheerleaders.
